Well then this is a rather exciting topic for me to be talking about! Myself and three for now other women (one sneaky one is hiding in the wings but for now will remain a surprise) will be taking to your screens once a week to talk about life with IBD and ostomies! In our very own SHOW! So even if you don’t have IBD but you have a stoma you are still included! Read more
I thought I would give everyone a little update on how my pregnancy and baby Button is going and a little insight into why I haven’t been posting regularly.
Hi everyone! Yesterday was the first meeting of the Hambleton and Richmondshire Ostomy Support Group! It has been in the works for a few months and has been a niggling thought in two fellow ostomate’s minds as well! I was so glad that I had other people to help expand this little idea of ours into a reality and you can too! (Do I care I’ve used a LOT of exclamation marks? nah I’m excited *insert cheesy grin*) Read more
Well today is my first Christmas with a stoma and I went into today with some fear from reading different articles talking about the “Do’s and Don’t’s” of the festive period. I’m NOT going to do that but talk about what my day ended up being like because well I can lol.
Someone in one of the support groups I’m part of on Facebook (I’m sorry I couldn’t remember which one to give you credit) shared a post on Trio Ostomy Care and how they have a little booklet on tips on healthy eating with an ostomy.
I fought very hard to get to see a dietitian because I knew I really needed some help with my base diet so I can try and get healthier. So I went to see the dietitian yesterday and she was saying she is quite happy with my food variation but I can obviously do things to make it better and more well rounded, which will ultimately benefit me. With an ileostomy I know a lot of people worry about eating vegetables and salad for the risk of blockages or the fear that they may irritate their IBD. Well I found recently that I can eat salad again or at least I’ve eaten it everyday this week and had no problems so far *touch wood*
So as promised I have written down the food I have eaten this week and I would definitely say its been better. Don’t get me wrong its not saintly but who the hell wants to live on salad leaves and air? Not me that’s for sure, but hopefully I will shed a few pounds by not filling my face with crap! Well and feel better in myself from not being overloaded from food with empty calories from fat and sugar like in the last diary.
Today I had an appointment with General Surgery (General Surgery *salute* to all you HIMYM fans out there) I thought I would be seeing my surgeon but nope I saw the Stoma nurse which was fine because that’s who I wanted to see anyway! I needed some more barrier rings and my peristomal skin is quite sore again. *Naked Stoma* straight off the bat in the post!
With my impending Dietetics appointment on Tuesday I decided to note down everything I ate and drank unhealthy or not so I could have a thorough appointment. Because lets face it I have no idea what the appointment is even for!
